BENJAMIN BATEY, Bowling Green State University

Benjamin Batey is the chief health officer for Bowling Green State University (BGSU), a cabinet level position under the university’s president.

Batey earned his undergrad degree at Mercy College of Ohio, and went to graduate school at BGSU and The University of Toledo (UToledo). Previous to his recent appointment to BGSU, he served for six years as the Wood County health commissioner. During that time, the health department achieved national accreditation and became a regional and statewide leader in public health.

Upon completion of his Master’s of public health (MPH), Batey was named the UToledo College of Medicine 2010 Outstanding Student for the MPH program. He has served his community on the board of the Wood County Committee on Aging for over eight years; as a statewide representative on the board of the Association of Ohio Health Commissioners; and as a board member for the Ohio Association of Community Health Centers; among others.
