ANTHONY DIA (Posthumous), Toledo Police Department

Anthony Dia was a field operations officer for the Toledo Police Department (TPD) where he was assigned to the Central District 8:00 pm – 4:00 am shift. On July 4, at about 12:30 am, Dia was shot and killed after responding to a disturbance at the Home Depot store on West Alexis Road. He had served just under two years with TPD and was to receive an exceptional performance report for his involvement in a felony arrest the week before his death.

Dia graduated from Owens Community College and started his career in law enforcement with Mercy Police. In July 2018, he was appointed to the Toledo Police Department.

Dia has brought the Toledo community together during very trying times. As members of the community learn of his life – his devotion to his family, to his Islamic and Arabic heritage, and to serving and protecting the community – they are motivated to live better. Dia has left an imprint on the hearts of his family and friends as well as countless others in the Toledo community, across the country, and across the world.

He married his wife, Jayme, in 2012 and together they have two sons, Younes and Maytham Dia. His last words over the air were, “Tell my family I love them.”
