CHRISTOPHER VICKERS

WTOL 11

Promoted to Chief Meteorologist at WTOL in 2021, Vickers is only the third to hold this role since 1979. He leads the largest WTOL weather staff in history. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist.

In 2017, Vickers brought the St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway that raises money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital back to Toledo. Under his leadership, the program has raised $7,500,000 to date which includes the record-shattering $2,000,000 raised in 2022. It is now the fourth largest Dream Home Giveaway in the nation and has over 60 local community partners. This program is dear to Vickers and the community as St. Jude Hospital was started by Toledoan Danny Thomas to defeat pediatric cancer.

Vickers received the 2018 Regional St. Jude Champion of the Year award followed by the 2019 National St. Jude Dream Home Campaign of the Year award. In his role as a meteorologist, the Ohio Associated Press awarded him Best Weather Cast in 2019, and he received Emmy awards in 2012 and 2019. He has also received The Press Club Touchstone award for Excellence in Journalism for “Off the Radar” podcast.

Vickers graduated from Ohio University with a Bachelor of Science in meteorology and a minor in physics. He was the founder and president of the Ohio University Meteorology Club.
