David Potts, owner of USA Insulation of Toledo, has grown his business from $1 million to $10 million in sales and from one to three locations. He believes his bigger impact on the community is the growth in staff and his biggest achievement is developing leaders. Because someone took a chance on him, he wants to pay it forward and teach others to do the same. He has given growth opportunities to his staff and helped one buy a franchise location. His reward is to see others reach levels they could not imagine and bring others up with them.

Potts’ community support includes his team. They regularly participate in charitable activities, including Special Horseman Connection/Dusty Boots where they sponsor the annual horse show and provide $5000 in scholarships for children in need. In addition, they donated insulation for their unheated therapy training barn used for children with special needs. They regularly volunteer for Planned Pethood and are a sponsor for “Paw Hoorah.” At Christmas time, they support two toy drives. Five years ago, the company began USA Insulation’s “Hometown Heros Insulation Giveaway” of insulation for an entire house for U.S. veterans and active military—a value of over $10,000.

With success has come recognition. Potts has received the “USA-WE Do the Right Thing Award” multiple times for embodying the company’s core values. His company has won the Better Business Bureau’s “Torch Award for Ethics.” He was personally honored with the inaugural “Jeff Pitrone Award for Excellence in Management” from USA Insulation’s Foundation. The award is based on the vision Pitrone had for management. He also received the first “key Award” for the entire system which is given to the franchisee who has achieved impressive growth and has upheld the mission and values of the company. Potts is the number three owner out of 1000+ locations. While he is driven to achieve success, he makes sure it is done the right way.

Potts earned both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree from the University of Toledo.
